February 2012: Checking in with Chris Sharma on his Margalef project on Raco de la Finestra with Dani Andrada taking care of the rope. Speculative grade, needless to say, is ‘proper hard’.
March 2012: Craig Bailey, the UKC ‘Be in my Calendar’ competition winner, outsmarting the so-called mother of all mantelshelves of Climb High (E4 6b) at Dinbren, Clwyd.
April 2012: Steve McClure firing off Trilogy (E5 6a) at the start of his epic rout of Raven Crag, Langdale during which Dawes Rides a Shovel Head (E7/8 6b) and Eulogy Direct (E8 6c) were both laid to waste in a few hours.
May 2012: Pen Trwyn’s newly refurbished Pigeon Cave is back on the agenda again; Neil Mawson getting in the swing of things ready for the burly finish to the Stiff Up Lip Extension (F8b).
June 2012: Lower Sharpnose on Devon’s Culm Coast is single-pitch, sea cliff nirvana! Adam Lincoln cruises Fay (E5 6a), one of the primo pitches on Middle Fin, on rock which is to die for.
July 2012: Gracie Martin enjoying a morning session amongst the gritstone boulderfield that is Robin Hood’s Stride, Peak District.
August 2012: Sam Whittaker enjoying hidden pleasures within the darker recesses of Thor’s Cave, Manifold Valley. Could the rock architecture be any more spectacular for Midgard Serpent (F7b+)?.
September 2012: It is written in the scrolls that good gritstoners can jam slabs – well here’s the proof! Tom Randall jamming the exit on Snug as a Thug on a Jug (E4 6b) on The Cowper Stone, Peak District.
October 2012: The Churnet, long an open secret in the Peak District, offers total quality climbing sans crowds! Leah Crain meets Simple Simon (Font 7b) at Wright’s Rock.
November 2012: Kevin Avery involved in an Arm’s Race (E4 5c) high above the Avon Gorge as the evening sun sets on Main Wall and Brunel’s famous 1864 suspension bridge. Altogether a quintessential South West scene.
December 2012: Shauna Coxsey,in the spotlight, nailing a problem during the 2011 World Cup Bouldering series at Cliffhanger, Sheffield.
